ESA Launches New Five-Year Strategic Plan to Navigate Ontario's Evolving Energy Landscape

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 31, 2025 — The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) has unveiled its new five-year strategic plan, Empowering Safety, Energizing Tomorrow. It outlines our commitment to adapt as an organization and lead in response to the rapidly changing energy sector in Ontario. During this period of transformational change, ESA will remain true to its core purpose: being the voice of safety in the electricity sector.

Ontario's energy sector faces a complex future, with a projected 75% increase in electricity demand by 2050, rapid technological change, and shifting consumer expectations.

“At the heart of everything we do is our singular purpose to enhance electrical safety in the province,” said Arjan Arenja, Chair of the Board of Directors at ESA. “It not only shapes our approach but also fuels the commitment and engagement of our dedicated employees. Surrounding this core purpose are the cornerstones of culture, strategy, and leadership—foundational elements that ensure our people, plans and actions are aligned with our vision to protect Ontarians from electrical harm.”

The plan was created after extensive collaboration, with input from over 300 people representing internal and external stakeholders, including ESA staff, Board members, safety partners, the Ministry and our regulated communities. It reflects the complexities of our evolving environment.

The five-year plan is centered upon four core strategic pillars:

  1. Increasing electrical safety awareness
  2. Enhancing collaboration
  3. Fostering compliance
  4. Evolving service delivery

“Our success in implementing this plan lies in preventing electrical harm, minimizing severe incidents, and ensuring a safer electrical future for Ontario,” said Josie Erzetic, President and CEO at ESA. “I'm thankful for the dedication of our staff, the collaboration of our safety partners, and the trust of our regulated communities as we move forward together."
