Electrical Safety Authority
The Electrical Safety Authority is responsible for enforcing a level of public electrical safety across Ontario that will keep the residents safe where they live, work and play.
Standards to ensure safe electrical products and installations have existed for more than 100 years – and inspections have been, and continue to be, the primary mechanism for identifying potential fire and shock hazard.
It doesn’t matter if you are renovating, or simply altering, electrical wiring in your home. Anytime you do any electrical work in your home:
- ensure electrical installations have been inspected by the Electrical Safety Authority and you have a “Certificate of Inspection” for the work. This is your record that electrical work meets requirements defined in the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
- the Electrical Safety Authority encourages you to use licensed electrical contractors.
